A lot of households in Pakistan can’t function without servants. Servants are required for cooking, butlering, errands, driving, gardening, washing clothes, etc. Some people can’t afford servants while some can afford to keep an army of servants. There are some families who only rely on servants to wash their clothes and help with general chores. During my grandmother’s era we had an army of servants to help run the house. Nowadays the only people in the house are my parents, brother and me. We don’t need so many servants as we can do a lot ourselves. We have this young maid (widow and sindhi) who lives in the servant quarters with her daughter. The daughter goes to a local free school courtesy of my mum.   Anyway the daughter is sweet and innocent, but we fear that wont last for long if her mother’s influence has anything to do with it. She is an awful person due to many reasons. My mum refuses to fire her because she thinks she is getting a bargain.

For starters

1. She stinks a lot phew. Each time we see her we avoid her like the plague so we don’t pass out from the fumes.

2. She is a big liar and lies constantly.

3. She uses her cellphone to talk to 3 different boyfriends day and night. She is so daring that she even talks to them on speaker phone. The slut (that’s what all of us at home call her behind her back)  is really dumb if she thinks we will buy the story that she is talking to her cousins. Funny thing is that her sindhi cousins speak punjabi, seriaki and  urdu.  We know she is up to hanky panky on the phone cause the cook knows all about it and the maid’s daughter spilled the beans to my mum.

4. Flirts with nearly everyone she meets (handymen, plumbers, tailor, gardener,etc.) She couldn’t work her “charm” on the cook (he is now her “brother”). Mum caught her taking the handyman’s cellphone number.

5. Loves to watch star plus and has the nerve to go and watch all the soaps on my dad’s tv with her daughter in tow. She doesn’t like to watch tv with mum cause she likes to watch pakistani tv shows which the maid loathes. I  think that star plus has screwed up the  maid and progeny’s brains.

6. Used the cordless phone to make calls to her various lovers while mum was in Isb for Khala’s funeral. Was caught when mum went through the itemized phone bill. Recently her phone was stolen and she would lower the land line’s ringer so that she could receive her calls in the morning.

We can’t trust her to go outside alone as we feel that she is up to no good.  Now you see that she is not a good person. I keep urging my mum to fire her but alas my pleas go to deaf ears. My mum is not taking this lying down as she keeps an eagle eye on the slut. She has informed her that she knows what she is up to so she’d better not do what she does. I feel it’s not good keeping her employed because of her loose morals.
